First Step in Communication App Development.

Here I have 2 articles I found that describe the different forms of communication technology apps. Me and my group have been getting close to one consensus idea. However, these articles provided some great knowledge on a foreign subject I was ignorant to and even opened the door to some ideas I didn’t know were there.
1. Reuters: Bitchat Offline Messaging Adoption in Uganda & Iran
Ng’wanakilala, F., & Biryabarema, E. (2026, January 14). Ugandans, Iranians turn to Dorsey’s messaging app Bitchat in web crackdowns. Reuters. https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/ugandans-iranians-turn-dorseys-messaging-app-bitchat-web-crackdowns-2026-01-14/
This article talks about the increasing use of Bitchat, a Bluetooth/mesh messaging app developed by Twitter co founder Jack Dorsey. Because Bitchat operates without internet or cellular networks, relying instead on peer-to-peer Bluetooth connections, citizens in Uganda and Iran have turned to the app when governments imposed internet shutdowns despite political injustices, seeing it as a tool for continued communication when networks are blocked.
2. Spoken AAC App Update Report
Spoken Inc. (2025, August 20). Spoken update brings greater representation [Press release]. Spoken AAC Press Room. https://spokenaac.com/press-room/august-2025-release/
This article elaborates on the idea of an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app designed for users with speech and language impairments. There was an update that added several new voice options with diverse accents, expanded icons for broader conversational topics, and personalization settings like “incognito mode” to give users privacy and contextual control over text. A more “lowkey” app that is modernizing its options.
